Iowa State Employment Laws
The state of Iowa has restrictions on what can be reported in a background screening report beyond what the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) dictates.
| Restriction | Explanation |

| Applicant/subject cannot be required to pay for a background check or a portion thereof | If a certified copy of criminal history data is requested in writing from the state, the employer must pay for such fees. See the statute here for more information. |
| Use of arrest record with no conviction | A signed release is required for disclosure of criminal history data that does not contain any disposition after eighteen months from the date of arrest, or successful completion of probation following a deferred judgment.
