The state of Michigan has restrictions on what can be reported in a background screening report beyond what the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) dictates.

Prohibits salary history inquiry during hiring processState and local governments are prohibited from inquiring about an applicant's past salary, per Executive Directive 2019-10.
Use of arrest record with no convictionEmployers may not consider an arrest for a misdemeanor that did not result in a conviction.

Use of Social Media Password InformationEmployers may not request user names or passwords of an applicant/employee’s personal websites or social media. There may be exceptions for employee misconduct and investigations.
